Now deep into its sixth production cycle—one that it has shared with its sedan counterpart, the Legacy—the Subaru Outback, which remains one of the top SUV-like station wagons around, receives few changes for the 2019 model year. It is still available in base-level, Premium, Limited, and Touring trims.

Performance

The regular engine on the 2019 Outback is the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder horizontally-opposed (H) SUBARU BOXER® engine, which produces 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. If you go with the Limited or Touring, though, you can switch the H4 with the 3.6-liter H6 for an output of 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Accompanying the engine is a continuously variable transmission with a 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Like all other Subaru vehicles, the Outback comes with standard all-wheel drive, which includes X-MODE® technology for maximizing traction on low-friction surfaces.
