Already unique in the midsize sedan market with its standard all-wheel-drive system, the Legacy gets major updates for the 2018 model year to set it further apart from its main rivals. Now ostensibly at the tail end of its sixth generation, the car received refreshed front and rear styling, a larger standard touchscreen (6.5 inches), a more powerful air-conditioning system, and higher-quality interior materials. In addition, Subaru says it re-tuned the Legacy for more ride comfortability, smoother acceleration, reduced highway noise, and a sportier steering feel.

Base-Level Trim

Under the hood of the 2018 Subaru Legacy, at least at the base level, is a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine (H4) that generates 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque and is tied to a continuously variable transmission. Standard comfort and convenience features on the vehicle include cruise control, Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ for smartphone-based control, four-speaker audio, an AM/FM radio tuner, a USB port and audio jack for playing music from mobile devices, and STARLINK™ infotainment integration with the previously mentioned 6.5-inch LCD touchscreen.

2018 Subaru Legacy Interior

The mid-level Sport is one of the more popular Legacy trims due to its racing-style design. Exclusive to this model are satin silver-finished side mirrors and rocker and trunk spoilers, and it has 18-inch alloy wheels to enforce its aerodynamic driving feel. Its comfort and convenience features include driver-side 10-way power adjustability and power lumbar support, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a power moonroof, fog lights, dual front and rear charging-only USB ports, an 8-inch LCD touchscreen (in place of the 6.5-inch), six-speaker audio, HD Radio™, a single-disc CD player, a complimentary four-month SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription, an LCD color multi-information screen, keyless access with push-button engine ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a garage-door opener.

2018 Subaru Legacy Exterior

As the top-level Legacy trim, the Limited appeals to those who want the very most out of their midsize Subaru. It is the only one that allows for swapping the H4 with the 3.6-liter H6 instead, which produces 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. It is the only 2018 Legacy trim with the following as standard features: leather upholstery, a driver-side 2-position memory system, 4-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, a 12-speaker 576-watt Harman Kardon audio system, turn-signal indicators on the side mirrors, a dual stainless-steel exhaust system (instead of a single one), and steering responsive technology on the headlights.
