The 2026 Outback: Spacious and Off-Roading Upgrades - View 2026 Outback Inventory in Tallahassee, FL
The 2026 Outback showcases a new, stronger look, opting for rough edges and a boxier shape that adds more space and versatility. Cosmetic changes include a larger heavy-duty front grille paired with stacked vertical LED headlights, daytime running lights, and a full-width rear taillight bar. Protective, scratch-resistant cladding encases the lower body of the vehicle including a front fascia supporting improved aerodynamics. The bumper section is easily removed for hitch installation.
Raised roof rails allow for an 800-pound static load capacity and 220-pound dynamic load rating along with Subaru's first-ever lateral load capacity rating of up to 220 pounds from the sides of the crossbars. The flatter roofline increases the interior cargo area, valuable space for long trips or on-the-go weekend activities around Tallahassee.

New Infotainment Screen & Fully Digital Gauge Cluster
The 2026 Outback just made major changes to the dashboard for an even smoother ride. The previous 11.6-inch fully touchscreen multimedia infotainment system brings back physical controls with a 12.1-inch horizontal display and two rows of tactile buttons and knobs. In addition, the now 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster offers multiple layout options. Notably, an EyeSight®-focused mode for enhanced safety showing the surrounding vicinity and a navigation mode that integrates directly from the newly standard wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The new display also integrates cloud-based voice recognition that supports natural speech for controlling vehicle functions. Select trims feature TomTom® hybrid cloud navigation, real-time guidance, natural voice assistance, and continuously updated maps. Trims without hybrid cloud navigation use maps through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto wireless integration, as mentioned above.
Cabin & Cargo: A Quieter Ride and More Room
The new boxier design also gives drivers an extra two inches of height for additional headroom and cargo volume, now 34.6 cu. ft. (80.5 cu. ft. with the second row folded flat), maximizing storage space for versatile use. Sound-absorbing materials in the roof and headliner make for a quieter cabin, and wind noise is reported to be cut by 10% from aerodynamic elements in refreshed body sides and roof rails.
Upgraded X-Mode
Drivers will now find the upgraded X-Mode activation easily accessible on the steering wheel. This is an upgrade of the previous X-Mode system now built for better performance off-road. PLUS: Wilderness-trim has an exclusive dual X-mode for more traction and stability in various aggressive conditions âžž View 2026 Outback Wilderness Inventory.
Subaru Safety Advancements
Expanded EyeSight® & DriverFocus® Technology
Featuring upgraded Subaru Safety Technology for 2026, the latest Outback is equipped with advanced features to make every drive safe and stress-free. The Touring and Touring XT trims are specially equipped with New Advanced Driving Assist Systems, further supporting drivers with GPS data, 3D high-definition maps, millimeter-wave radar, and a camera-based system. This includes the second-generation DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System delivering more precise safety alerts through a wider-angle, higher-resolution camera, improved processing, and infrared LEDs that can track eye gaze through most sunglasses or eyeglasses.
New additions featured on the 2026 Outback include the following:
• Highway Active Lane Change Assist When lane centering is activated, Lane Change Assist helps steer lane changes safely while ensuring safe conditions. It can only be activated when driving at 50 MPH or higher, and drivers must keep alert with both hands on the wheel.
• Automatic Resume Assist In stop-and-go traffic, this feature can restart the vehicle without the need for the driver to use the accelerator pedal. In addition, allowable stop time has extended from 3 to 30 seconds, easing the need for drivers to apply gas.
• Pre-Curve Speed Control Anticipating upcoming turns ahead, this feature automatically reduces speed based on the sharpness of the curve. Once completed, the MPH is then returned to the previous speed set. The gauge cluster displays when the feature is activated through color indicators.
• Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection In the event a driver becomes unresponsive, this feature will signal the driver with audio, visual, and haptic alerts. If no response is given, the vehicle will safely change lanes, pull over, turn on all hazards, notify emergency services, and unlock all doors.
• EyeSight® Highway Hands-Free Assist (*2026 Outback Touring and 2026 Outback Touring XT trim level exclusive!) Enables hands-free driving up to 85 mph on most interstate highways when advanced adaptive cruise control is activated. DriverFocus® monitors the driver and will prompt the driver to place their hands on the wheel and resume control if driver inattention is detected.
