What Performance Specs does the Forester Deliver?
The base model 2016 Forester comes with a 2.5L engine that delivers a total of 170 horsepower. You can choose either 6-speed manual or Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission. There is plenty of acceleration power even when the vehicle is fully loaded with passengers and cargo. Symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard on the base trim. The Vehicle Dynamics Control constantly monitors wheel speeds as well as vehicle yaw rate and brake pressure. You'll find that handling over rough terrain is no problem, and the chassis and lower frame is exceptionally strong, with only minor bump shock felt when traveling over the most uneven road surfaces.
What are the Interior Features?
Standard equipment in the base 2.5 trim includes 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a 6-way manual driver's seat, and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel. The multi-function center control has been redesigned and looks a bit more impressive than what is found on the 2015 models. Dual cup holders, a rear storage box, and a lighted front storage tray are all standard equipment. Uplevel trims can be purchased with a cargo area underfloor storage, tie-down hooks for the rear cargo area, and fold-down rear armrests with cup holders. The Limited trim comes with a fully automatic climate control system and a removable cargo area tray.
How do the Technology Features Stack up?
New for 2016 is the expanded STARLINK® system that puts you in complete control of all technology features. The base 2.5i trim comes with a 6.2-inch multimedia touchscreen with HD radio audio. Bluetooth® streaming and hands-free phone connectivity are included. The uplevel trims feature a full STARLINK® package that includes a 7-inch touchscreen, multimedia navigation, smartphone integration, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon stereo. The touchscreen is voice-activated. This is a huge improvement over the 2015 model features, and drivers will enjoy the ease with which a smartphone can connect via apps to the entire STARLINK® technology platform.
How Do the Safety Features Come in?
Subaru has long been a leader in the automobile safety and security department. Along with a full set of front and side-curtain airbags, the 2016 Forester also comes with advanced traction control, stability control, and a rear vision camera. Optional safety equipment includes the complete EyeSight system with adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking. Rollover sensors and rear child safety door locks are standard on all trims. Keyless entry and anti-theft protection is also standard on every new 2016 Forester, something not found on many of the competing model base trims. Crash test ratings are not yet available for the 2016 models, but should be similar to the results for the 2015 model. The 2015 Forester achieved a five-star rating for overall crash protection.
